Product Description
The unique AIR-TITE system of the Diaper Genie II Advanced Disposal System has a seven-layer barrier film that has been proven best in odor control. Plus the Diaper Genie II system is incredibly easy to use with its one-hand operation; and since the diaper never touches the pail, there’s one less thing to clean. Giftwrap not available for this item.

I used diaper Genie with my first child. With my second I am using a Simplehuman stainless steel trash can I got at Bed, Bath and Beyond for $25. You can also find them at Target. You can use you grocery bags in it. The lid closes tight enough, and I find it easier to use.

I bought this product thinking I could use it for two purposes: diapers and cat waste. Unfortunately, the Diaper Genie 2 failed on both accounts.
First, to dispose of the waste and “lock” the odor away, you’re required to push it down past a very stiff lever. If you push too hard you’ll break it (as my boyfriend discovered), but not hard enough and you end up with your trash trapped between the lever and the side of the can.
The smell is decently contained, but no better than other products that are easier to use, such as the Playtex Diaper Genie Twist-Away Pail System or the Baby Trend Diaper Champ.
If you’re looking for cat waste disposal, do NOT choose this product. The opening on the top is too small for any normal litter scoop, so you’ll end up gambling and attempting to toss the litter clumps into the can – NOT pretty. In addition, you’ll have to develop some way of pushing them down past the lever. I ended up putting the waste into plastic grocery bags and THEN putting it into the diaper genie – so what’s the point?? I think the only product on the market that works even marginally well is the Litter Locker Plus, which I’m going to write a review of when I finish this one.
OVERALL: even without the pet litter issues I find that pushing my arm elbow-deep into a pail of garbage is too gross to make it worth it – I’d rather take the garbage out more often. Simply buying a lidded garbage can and sticking an air freshener to the inside of the lid is easier and more pleasant than using this product.

I honestly do not understand the positive reviews this product is getting. I’ve never used the DG1, but I’ve only used the DG2 for less than a week and will be going to purchase some other diaper disposal system today. I guess the system keeps down the smell OK, but I’m not sure that it’s totally worth it to have to get excrement on your hands every time you change a diaper. As mentioned by previous posters, there is a spring mounted mechanism that makes you forcibly push the dirty diaper down into the contraption. If the diaper is full, squishing it up against the odor locking door forces the diaper’s contents to come out. I just don’t get how this is a good system. I honestly don’t think buying the refills are all that burdensome since they aren’t too much more expensive than garbage bags, my main beef is the ease-of-use and sanitary aspects of the product. Would not recommend!

This product does keep the stink away, and it’s easy to use. But it has what I consider a fatal design flaw. When the bags run out, the last length just slips right out of the holder, and you end up with no bag left in the top part of the genie. If you’re not watching, you can easily stick a diaper into the genie without a bag. I go through a lot of bags with my twins, so this has happened on more than one occasion. Really irritating.

This product is ok for wet diapers and keeps smell in ok for them but would never work for larger poopy diapers. You have to push the diaper thru a tight hole and would be unsanitary. I put the poopy diapers in a separte bag and walk take out to trash. Design flaws are : 1) You have to push a diaper through tight hole and does not work for poopy diapers. 2) The refill bag cardtrige has a sharp lip on it and when you stick your hand down to push the diaper in…you have to watch because it scraps and can cut your hand.
